    Default create2dtexture startup error? [pc]

i have been getting the following error this past week when trying to start up both sp and mp:

    Create2dtexture( 3 cursor3, 64, 64,0, 861165636 ) failed: 8876086c = invalid call

i think it has something to do with patch 1.7 bc it worked fine b4.
sometimes reloading 1.5 and then 1.6 will fix it but not right now...

any1 else getting this and know how to fix it?

i have a digital copy btw

    I have the same problem
I'm running on ATI Radeon X1950 pro updated the drivers and reinstalled them
    and updated directx too.
Looked at some other forums a lot of people have this problem, with different graphics cards too, but no real simple solution.

this thread has had many views, but I do NOT see anyone from the forums posting about this problem.

Is this the place to post this question or not?

    I am getting similar error: Create2DTexture( $floatz, 800, 600, 0, 114 ) failed: 8876086c = Invalid call

I have a geforce8600GT videocard which should be MORE than enough for this game, and yet I am having issues with this start-up..

I do NOT have a sound-card,but I do not think it is needed as this worked on my wifes vista machine.Mine is XP...

I have sought an answer to this mystery and it seems as if many people have this problem, maybe not enough to get someone on the ball to FIND A SOLUTION to this problem since once you buy the game thats it,you are STUCK the $40 or so you spent on a game which will not work for you..

I got this for my son and it will not start up on my system, the ONLY thing that is different is I do not have a sound card, but neither does my wife and it worked fine on her laptop with vista..LOL....Go figure..

SO..If their is a fix for this, someone needs to reply to these people having this problem..either a moderator of these forums or someone from the game-makers company..Yes I am A bit ticked off and frustrated that no one seems to know what causes this problem,or at the very least cannot come up with a solution to help those of us who cant seem to get pass this problem..

I've seen a lot of people with older ATI Graphics cards give the following solution:
Go into catalyst,Click the 3D tab on the left,Go to more settings,Check the "Support DXT Texture Format's" box.
My problem, is that I also have the ATI Radeon x1950, and I can't find a button, or tab or anything that says more settings, so I don't know how to fix the problem for myself.

Oh boy... Okies, All of you; Post your dxdiags please (Click start>run>type: dxdiag>hit return>click save all info>save as .txt>copy and paste)...

You can't post the whole thing in one post, I don't want the whole thing (for now) just give me everything from the top that you can fit in one post... Keep your dxdiag to hand though, as I may ask for the rest of it later on....

Google lists a lot of threads about this topic but there doesn't seem to be any solutions in them that work. I've had CoD4 running for about nine months without problems then out of the blue, the "Create2DTexture" bug appeared. About the same time my Quake 4 wouldn't start either.

I reinstalled the game without success. Then I remembered that I had recently upgraded my Nvidia drivers and wondered if that had been the reason. I found that a newer set of drivers were now available so I downloaded them. After installing the new drivers, both CoD4 and Quake 4 started normally.

I think the reason it didn't work before was not that the old set of drivers was bad, but that I had been lazy and had installed them on top of the existing drivers. The second time I uninstalled the previous drivers before installing the new ones. I'm not positive, but I think that was what did the trick.

Yeah, that'd do it... That's why I was asking for dxdiags... So I could check the drivers people were using. Then when sveppi said that, well... The word chortle springs to mind...
